Inspiring Lessons on the Journey to Open Your Own Business

Posted by on

I’ve always had an affinity for skincare. As a little girl, I remember creating my own masks in the kitchen by whipping together egg whites and other food ingredients and applying to my face. It wasn’t until years later, though, while on a completely different path that I decided I wanted to become an aesthetician.

I was living in Paris in my early 20s, doing a French Studies program at the Sorbonne, when I first discovered the art of the facial, and, from that moment forward, I knew I had found my passion. I fell in love with the way French women cared for their skin and knew I had to spread the gospel.

Upon my return from Paris, I discovered a newly-opened French Spa in Carmel. It was one of the only US-based training institutes and spas for the legendary French botanical skincare line, Yonka-Paris. I commuted an hour and a half daily from my home to San Jose until receiving my aesthetician license.

In LA, I worked at the Spa at Equinox in West Hollywood prior to joining Ole Henriksen Spa.

I kept getting in trouble at those spas, however, because I always wanted to create my own facial protocols. I started experimenting and innovating and began to gain my own loyal clientele, including many well-known celebrities, many of whom became friends and later encouraged me to go solo.

In September 2016, I finally opened my own spa at The Glen Centre, nestled in the hills above Bel Air. My vision for the space was feminine, bohemian dollhouse vibe. The walls are soft pink, adorned with beautiful contemporary art, white faux fur rugs, white macrame wall hangings, accented with 24K gold leaf walls.

I have pictures throughout of some of my friends and clients who have inspired me, including a prominent facing one of Barbra Streisand, who, during the course of a two-hour facial (five years ago), asked me what my dream was, to which I replied, “starting my own skincare line.” As a longtime admirer of Barbara’s trailblazing efforts on behalf of all women, I knew I had to forge ahead with my entrepreneurial aspirations. From that day forward, I began searching for the best green, USDA certified organic skincare lab, and I haven't looked back.
